Leon McCombs was born on January 3, 1928, in Unadilla, GA. His parents are the late Mack McCombs and Abbey McCombs. He moved to Miami, FL in 1951 with his sister Margie and brother Lamar. He had a brother and sister who preceded him before this move. He was reunited with cousin Inez Glover Sanders. He has one daughter, Dorothy Ann Bynes from a prior marriage. He met and married the late Ruby N. McCombs and from this union, four children were born: Mildred, Beverly, Leon J., and Cheryl.

 

He started his career with the International Longshoremen Association in September 1958 and retired on January 3, 1990. He also worked part-time at Roy Mizell & Kurtz Funeral Home. He enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins, Marlins, and Heat games. He enjoyed fishing and growing vegetables, particularly collard greens. He has ten grandchildren: Mark Anthony (Vonetta), Leon Lavon (Shawanda), Derek, Antoine (Andrea), Daryl, Leon Monterey, Sandy, Shanae, Vontae, and Jenna. He has 36 great grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close friends.
